Our Commitment to Privacy

SonicSplit is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle. We believe your audio preferences and usage patterns are your business, not ours.

Data Collection

We collect ZERO data.

Specifically, SonicSplit does NOT collect, transmit, or store:

  • Personal information (name, email, etc.)
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Application usage patterns
  • Audio content or recordings
  • System information or logs
  • Crash reports (unless you manually submit them)

Local Data Storage

SonicSplit stores your volume preferences and settings locally on your Mac:

  • Location: ~/Library/Application Support/SonicSplit/audio_profiles.json
  • Contents: App Bundle IDs, volume levels, mute states, Focus Mode settings
  • Access: Only SonicSplit has access to this file
  • Sync: This data is NOT synced to iCloud or any cloud service

You can delete this file at any time to reset all preferences.

Permissions Required

Screen Recording Permission

SonicSplit requires Screen Recording permission to use Apple's ScreenCaptureKit API for per-app audio isolation. Despite the name:

  • Your screen is NEVER recorded
  • Your screen is NEVER monitored
  • No screenshots are taken
  • Only audio streams are accessed

This is an Apple API requirement, not our choice. Apple groups audio capture under "Screen Recording" in System Settings.

Optional: Microphone Permission

Only requested if you enable Focus Mode to detect active calls. This permission is optional and not required for basic functionality.

Network Access

SonicSplit has ZERO network access.

The app cannot and does not:

  • Connect to the internet
  • Send data to external servers
  • Check for updates automatically
  • Phone home

This is enforced by App Sandbox restrictions and can be verified in System Settings > Privacy.

Third-Party Services

SonicSplit does not integrate with or use any third-party services, SDKs, or analytics platforms.

No tracking. No analytics. No exceptions.

Payment Processing

If you purchase SonicSplit:

  • Mac App Store: Handled by Apple. We never see your payment information.
  • Direct Purchase: Processed by Gumroad/LemonSqueezy. We receive only your email for license delivery.

We do not store credit card information or process payments directly.

Children's Privacy

SonicSplit does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy (spoiler: we won't, because we don't collect data), we will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date.

Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

Since we collect zero data:

  • Right to Access: There is no data to access
  • Right to Deletion: There is no data to delete
  • Right to Portability: There is no data to export
  • Right to Opt-Out: There is nothing to opt out of

We are in full compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and all privacy regulations by simply not collecting data.

Verification

You can verify our privacy claims by:

  • Checking System Settings > Privacy > Network (SonicSplit will not appear)
  • Using Little Snitch or similar firewall (no connections will be detected)
  • Reviewing our open-source code on GitHub
